The Apple Pencil is a great accessory, but it’s prohibitively pricey for schools to buy in bulk. To give students the chance to use a stylus without breaking the bank, Logitech created a more affordable stylus. It’s called the Crayon, and it will be sold by Apple directly to schools.
The $49 Logitech stylus is aimed at the kids market, although budget-conscious adults will likely crave one.
Apple debuted the Crayon at the big “field trip” media event today, alongside a beefy Logitech iPad case and keyboard combo called the Rugged Combo 2, which will retail for $99. The new products will “be available for purchase to schools and school districts in the U.S. beginning this summer” directly from Apple, Logitech said in a press release.
No doubt Apple hopes that giving its seal of approval to a cheaper stylus will boost adoption of stylus-oriented iPad apps in education.
At Apple’s ongoing education event today, the company also debuted a new, cheaper 9.7-inch iPad that will cost schools just $299. Designed for students, the new iPad boasts Apple Pencil support and a faster processor.
