Google Home Price Drop Ends Next Week

This article is more than 6 years old.

After discounting the Pixel 2 XL, Google has also slashed the price of the Google Home Mini in the UK this week to £34, whilst the US Mini enters its final week of a $20 price drop.

Both devices have hugely fluctuated in price in the last year, especially in or around holidays, and it looks like Google is capitalising on the Easter break with a reasonable £15 off, which ends on April 4th. For US buyers, Google’s three month $20 off deal on the Home and Home Mini ends this week (March 31st).

The search giant - alongside increasingly competitive retailers - is pulling out every stop to ship its smart speakers. Black Friday 2017 saw serious discounts across all of the smart speakers, which was quickly followed by the three month $20 off deal, which started in Jan 2017.

Retailers, too, are giving away Home and Home Mini (and Amazon Echos too) with multiple smart home products like Philips Hue lights, speakers and security systems.

If you happen to miss either of these limited time deals, I suspect there will be plenty of other price drops in the coming months. Both Google and Amazon seem to run an offer of some sort for their smart home tech every quarter, which makes sense given how potentially valuable a purchase of either device is.

In essence, these smart speakers are a gateway into other products from the same company. Buying these products usually means buying into the ecosystem, which is far more lucrative for these tech companies.

Whether that’s because you buy more related smart home products that are easily linked to your pre-existing system or harvesting valuable home data - these devices provide a path further into your purse. And, as Google Assistant and Alexa spread to other devices likes fridges and washing machines, the battle for your choice of ecosystem intensifies.
