Epic Games is bringing its insanely popular Fornight Battle Royale to iPhone and iPad.
It will be exactly the same 100-player game you’ve been enjoying on consoles, with the same map and the same weapons — and it will support cross-platform play between PlayStation 4 and PC. You can sign up to join the beta on Monday, March 12.
The battle royale genre has been steadily increasing in popularity over the last few years with games like H1Z1 and Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds. But none have attracted the same kind of attention as Fortnight, which recently topped a whopping 3.4 million concurrent players.
Fortnight is coming to iOS
Weekly updates that add new content ensure players keep coming back, and Fortnite’s support for almost every platform means it’s accessible to everyone. Starting next week, you won’t even need a PC or console to take part in the fun.
“Fortnite Battle Royale is coming to mobile devices!” Epic announced on Thursday night. “On phones and tablets, Fortnite is the same 100-player game you know from PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Mac. Same gameplay, same map, same content, same weekly updates.”
What’s more, Fornite on iOS will support cross-platform play with PlayStation 4 and PC, which means you’ll be able to team up with friends on those platforms. It will even support cross-platform progression, so your account and anything you’ve already unlocked will be there on iOS.
“We believe this is the future of games,” Epic says. “The same game on all platforms. Console quality graphics and action. Play when you want, where you want.”

It’s unclear how Fortnite will play on touch-based devices, given that so many controls are required for battle and building. For comfort and accuracy, it will almost certainly be a more enjoyable experience for those who use a wireless controller.
Fortnite for mobile doesn’t have an official release date yet, but you’ll be able to sign up to try the beta on Monday, March 12. If you’re lucky enough to get an invite, you will also receive additional codes that you’ll be able to pass onto friends so that they can join you.
You’ll need to be running iOS 11 on an iPhone 6s or later, an iPad mini 4 or later, or an iPad Air 2 or later to participate in the preview. Support for Android devices is coming later, Epic says.
