No new features are currently in the works for RS4

The development process of Windows 10 Redstone 4 has entered the last stage of development, as the next OS release is now feature-locked and Microsoft is working on the finishing touches before the public launch.

This means that while several new builds are expected to be shipped to users enrolled in the Windows Insider program, they would only include bug fixes and small refinements.

The lack of new features makes sense since we’re getting closer to the launch of Redstone 4, as Microsoft needs to iron out the latest bugs just to make sure that everything’s working smoothly when the public rollout begins.

Windows 10 Spring Creators Update?

With RTM already on the radar, insiders should receive several new builds in the coming weeks, all of them lacking new features, but otherwise being entirely focused on smaller improvements. As it happened in the case of the previous Windows 10 updates, insiders will be the first to get the RTM build, while everyone else will receive it in April.

Windows 10 Redstone 4 will launch as version 1803, which is a direct reference to the compiling date. The first two digits stand for the year – in this case 2018, while the other two represent the month – the third month, which is March. So March 2018 is the month when Windows 10 Redstone 4 will be completed for insiders, while the public rollout would begin a month later.

Microsoft hasn’t yet announced the official name of Windows 10 Redstone 4, which is more or less awkward since we’re only a few weeks away from the RTM sign-off date, but it’s believed the company is pondering calling it “Spring Creators Update.”

This moniker, however, could cause some confusion in the Windows community given that the previous two updates included the term Creators as well (Windows 10 Creators Update and Windows 10 Fall Creators Update), so it’ll be interesting to see what name the company picks for this new release.
