Check Out Google's Browser-Based Song Maker

To celebrate Music in Our Schools Month, Google just launched a neat browser-based tool that lets anyone become a musician.

Dubbed Song Maker, the tool lets you easily make music through fun experiments and share your creations with friends. Just head over to the Song Maker site and use your finger, mouse, or keyboard to click some of the blocks, then press the play button on the bottom left to hear what you created.

You can experiment with different sounds including piano keys, strings, and blocks; speed up or slow down the tempo of your tune, and even turn on your microphone to sing a note. Once you create something you like, just press Save and you'll get a link that you can share with others. Friends can then click the link and listen to your creation.

Song Maker is the latest tool in Google's Chrome Music Lab, which offers several other resources for learning music. Tools in the Chrome Music Lab work across devices – you can play with them on a phone, tablet, or laptop by simply navigating to the site via your Web browser. You don't need to download anything or make an account to try this out; just open Song Maker or another Chrome Music Lab tool and start playing around.

"Many teachers have been using Chrome Music Lab as a tool in their classrooms to explore music and its connections to science, math, art, and more," Google wrote. "They've been combining it with dance and live instruments."
