Apple has no time for your drones! Yesterday was Apple’s annual investors meeting, and one of the attendees tweeted this photo of signage erected at Apple Park declaring it a “no drone zone.”
Given Apple’s insistence on privacy — and Tim Cook declaring that keeping Apple products under wraps is the “bane of [his] existence” — that’s not necessarily a surprise. Still, it does mean that Apple is seemingly none too happy about the myriad drone flyover videos which keep on showing up online.
Exactly what Apple means when it talks about a “no drone zone” isn’t totally clear. Last year, Apple Insider noted that the company has hired a security force intended to stop drone flyovers at its campus. One drone pilot said they were stopped by a security guard with the “express purpose” of stopping these flights.
Nonetheless, looking up the location of Apple Park, Cupertino reveals that there is no official “no-fly” drone regulations listed for the area by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, although pilots are asked to keep 360 feet away from all structures and must fly no more than 400 feet above ground level.
There could be additional grounds for asking drones to be banned, but it seems like declaring Apple Park a “no drone zone” may be more of a firm request.
The latest Apple Park drone flyover
Appropriately enough, drone photographer Matthew Roberts recently debuted his latest Apple Park drone flyover video — showing off Apple’s virtually finished new campus. Check it out below:
