Due to the fact that different applications, services, and websites use different styles of passwords (some require alphanumeric passwords, some require symbols, some ask for a mix of upper and lowercase), it can be a hassle to try and remember all of them. Password managers are one way to go about this, but what about ditching passwords entirely?That seems to be something that Microsoft is considering for Windows 10 S. According to Microsoft’s announcement, “Do you hate entering your passwords all the time? So do we. Passwords are inconvenient and insecure. With Windows 10 S you don’t have to! Just download the Authenticator App and use it to set up your Windows 10 S PC. You will be able to go through the out-of-box experience, set up Windows Hello and access all your favorite apps and services – all without ever having to enter your password.”
This doesn’t mean that your computer won’t be secured, it just means that users now have a different way to authenticate themselves when they log into their computers in a way that they won’t have to remember, such as through biometrics like your fingerprint, facial recognition, or through a PIN, which can be admittedly easier to remember.
As Forbes points out, these are already existing methods for signing in, except that in this latest change, Microsoft does not require users to setup a password first before choosing one of those options.
