2018 iPhones tipped to come with high-capacity L-shaped batteries

The current iPhone X sports a 2716 mAh battery, larger than the iPhone 8 Plus' 2675 mAh single-cell rectangular battery.

Rumours of Apple's upcoming iPhones are already present in dime-a-dozen and now a new report indicates that 2018 iPhones could come with L-shaped batteries.

The Cupertino based tech giant is reportedly planning to bend fully in L-shape and equip the next-generation heirs of the iPhone X with single cell L-shaped batteries. This clearly means that it will hold more charge (no separator needed) and charge faster with a higher capacity over the iPhone X’s current battery. The iPhone X uses two rectangular batteries in an 'L' configuration. The current iPhone X sports a 2716 mAh battery, larger than the iPhone 8 Plus' 2675 mAh single-cell rectangular battery.

Moreover, Apple is reportedly looking to diversify parts suppliers for its OLED iPhone lineup in 2018. So far, Samsung Display has been the sole supplier for the OLED screen. But it seems that its crosstown rival LG Display might supply the largest 6.45-inch screen to Apple.

According to The Investor, Apple has partnered with LG Chem, which will produce L-shaped battery packs for its phones. LG has built a factory in Nanjing, China, dedicated completely to iPhone battery production.

While its hardly been 3 months since the iPhone X saw the light of the day, the internet is busy buzzing for a larger ‘iPhone X Plus’ which could sport a screen as large as 6.5-inches.
