HP is set to drop a very powerful convertible laptop on the masses at CES 2018. In fact, HP claims that the machine is the world's most powerful convertible PC, and we have no reason to doubt the company.

The Spectre x360 15 is available with one of two potent processors with equally competent graphics subsystems. The first available is an 8th generation Intel Core i7-8550U processor that is paired with Pascal-based GeForce MX150 graphics. The second, and possibly more entertaining pairing is the 8th generation Core i7-8705G processor, which includes an on-package AMD Radeon RX Vega M GL graphics card.

Despite the fact that Intel has billed its new Core processors with Radeon RX Vega M GPUs as being the ultimate solution for thin and light machines, this variant actually weighs slightly more than the Core i7-8550U paired with the GeForce MX150 (4.72 pounds vs 4.61 pounds). But we digress…

No matter which processor/GPU combination you select, the Spectre x360 15 includes a 15.6-inch diagonal 4K IPS micro-edge BrightView WLED-backlit touch screen display. It is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass and rocks a native 4K resolution of 3840x2160 with 8.2 million pixels and 178-degree viewing angles.

Internal storage for the convertible is up to a 2TB PCIe NVM M.2 SSD. HP didn’t scrimp on the sound either integrating Bang & Olufsen quad speakers. Wireless connectivity included 2x2 802.11ac WLAN and Bluetooth. Inside the bezel of the screen is a HP Wide Vision FHD IR Webcam that has integrated dual array microphone.

The keyboard is a full-size island-style backlit unit with a numeric keypad, and HP also includes a Digital Pen that can be used for sketching, writing, and navigating controls. The big feature of the Spectre x360 15 Convertible is that the screen can be turned around for use as a tablet thanks to a 360-degree geared hinge, allowing operation in four different modes.

HP Fast Charge tech allows the machine to charge from completely dead to 50% capacity in 45 minutes. The fingerprint reader allows access to the machine and uses 3-D fingerprint the for secure access. The USB port supports sleep and charge for connected devices and it has a USB-C Thunderbolt port.

The Spectre x360 15 launches March 18th with a starting price of $1,369.
