These days lithium-ion batteries can be found in pretty much all of our portable electronic devices, and while they are common, they do pose certain dangers where they can swell up and explode if damaged. Unfortunately for many HP laptop owners, it looks like there is a chance your laptop could be affected by faulty batteries.

So much so that HP has announced the recall of 50,000 lithium-ion laptop batteries that have the danger of catching on fire. According to HP, “These batteries have the potential to overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard to customers. For this reason, it is extremely important to check whether your battery is affected.”

Note that this is only the recall of the batteries and not the laptop itself. According to the CPSC, the affected laptops include the HP ProBooks (64x G2 and G3 series, 65x G2 and G3 series), HPx360 310 G2, HP Envy m6, HP Pavilion x360, HP 11, HP ZBook (17 G3, 17 G4, and Studio G3) Mobile Workstations.

Thankfully no major injuries have been reported, save for a first-degree burn to the hand. HP has also claimed that there have been eight reports of battery packs overheating, melting, or charring to date. If you are unsure if your laptop is one of the ones affected, you can find out for yourself by heading on over to HP’s website and checking.
