Intel Core i7-8809G CPU With Integrated AMD Radeon RX Vega Graphics Spotted

It's not a secret that AMD and Intel have worked together to create an Intel-powered CPU with Radeon RX Vega graphics; as you can see in the video below, Intel announced its embedded multi-die interconnect bridge or EMIB along with its intention to use a custom Radeon GPU and high bandwidth memory last year.

We've now got a glimpse of what the new CPU will look like in the form of the Core i7-8809G, which was spotted by Anandtech earlier this month in a table that lists unlocked processors. The CPU has since been removed from the list, but it's interesting that it was listed here as it suggests the CPU can be overclocked like current K-series CPUs such as the Core i7-8700K

Specifications for the Core i7-8809G listed include 8MB L3 cache, four cores, eight threads and a total package TDP of 100W along with support for DDR4 memory. There are no specifications for the Radeon RV Vega CPU, though, which is the most interesting part of the product.

Intel has traditionally offered comparatively low integrated graphics performance and with the exception of its Broadwell CPUs, even 1080p gaming at modest settings was largely beyond the capability of its HD graphics.

It's made little headway here with Coffee Lake too, so in a somewhat unexpected move, the partnership with AMD could see CPUs such as the Core i7-8809G offer decent frame rates in games without the need for a discrete graphics card. Interestingly, AMD is expected to release its own CPUs or rather 'APUs' as they have discrete graphics, but using its own Ryzen CPUs and Zen core.
