Leaked Image Suggests Galaxy S9 Retains Headphone Jack

While other premium smartphones are copying Apple and ditching the headphone jack, it looks as though Samsung will continue to buck the trend.

When Apple decided a headphone jack on its smartphones was no longer necessary and took a "courageous" decision by removing it, I think most consumers were just annoyed. Removing the jack didn't add anything, it simply removed choice. Unfortunately, the jack removal then got copied by other manufacturers including Google with the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL ($599.00 at Amazon) . However, it looks as though Samsung is bucking this trend.

The Galaxy S8, S8+, and Note 8 ($329.97 at Amazon) all retained the headphone jack while still allowing for wireless headphone use if you preferred. But what about the Galaxy S9 arriving next year? I'm sure many believe Samsung will adopt what is fast becoming the norm and ditch the jack. A leaked image suggests otherwise, though.

As TechRadar reports, the leaked image appeared on Slashleaks and shows a section of the S9 internals focusing specifically on the USB-C flex cable. However, what's also present in the image is a headphone jack port location. If the image is real, and apparently the source is reliable, then it means the Galaxy S9 and S9+ will still support wired headphones without requiring an awkward dongle.

A Samsung patent spotted earlier this month suggests the Galaxy S9 may be getting a novel new feature in the form of palm reading for password hints. There was also another patent discovered concerning a phone with a wraparound display, but that's more likely to be an S10 or even S11 feature than shipping as part of next year's S9.
