How to Fix That iOS Bug That's Been Making Your iPhone Crash All Day

If your iPhone or iPad was crashing all day Saturday, you’re not alone.

An iOS bug appeared to be triggered Saturday that caused iPhones to crash whenever they receive a notification, specifically one that was autogenerated from the app. For instance, a notification from a game that “We haven’t seen you in a while” would trigger the bug, while one saying “Bob liked your tweet” based on a specific action would not.

ZDNet explains that when you receive those notifications the bug causes processor usage in your phone to spike to 100 percent. That in turn causes your device to heat up, which then causes it to reset. And it’s super annoying.

Here’s how to fix it according to Apple support:

Try to update your device to iOS 11.2. After you tap Download and Install, the download will continue even if your device restarts. Wait for the update to complete.

If you can’t update, turn off notifications for all the apps on your device, then update your device to iOS 11.2:

1. Tap Settings > Notifications.

2. Tap an app, then turn off Allow Notifications. Repeat this step for each app.

3. Update your device to iOS 11.2.

4. After updating, tap Settings > Notifications and turn Allow Notifications on again for each app.

If you’re unable to update or still have issues after the update, contact Apple Support.
