Apple adds support for faster 7.5-watt wireless charging in its latest iOS 11.2 beta. iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X all support the increased charging speed. You’ll need a compatible wireless charging mat to take advantage of it, however.

Apple rolled out its third beta of iOS 11.2 on Monday. It doesn’t offer any hugely significant changes, but those with an iPhone X will notice a new Control Center indicator. You will also notice faster wireless charging on new iPhones if you have the right equipment.
iOS 11.2 brings faster charging
Earlier versions of iOS 11 allowed iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X to charge wirelessly at 5 watts. In iOS 11.2, however, Apple has bumped that up to 7.5 watts. It’s not a groundbreaking difference, but you will certainly welcome the improvement.
To take advantage of the increased speed, you’ll need a compatible wireless charging pad. The Belkin Boost Up pad that Apple sells, which we included in our roundup of best wireless chargers for iPhone, is capable of putting out 7.5 watts.
Other compatible charging pads include the Samsung Fast Charge pad, the RAVPower Fast Wireless Charger and the Mophie Wireless Charge Pad.
iOS 11.2 is coming soon
iOS 11.2 is still in the beta testing stage for now. Anyone can download the public beta from Apple right now. We expect the official public release to become available within the next few weeks.
