Have you ever missed an important notification on your Mac? You can set up so many different notifications that sometimes one slips by. If you've had this issue before, one of macOS's little-known features can help you with missing alerts.

This feature flashes the screen briefly when you receive a notification:

  1. Click the Apple menu in the top-left corner of your screen and choose System Preferences > Accessibility.
  2. On the left sidebar, select the Audio option under the Hearing category.
  3. You'll see an option labeled Flash the screen when an alert sound occurs. Check it to enable the option.
  4. Click Test Screen Flash if you want a quick example of how it works.

As intended, this helps users with hearing disabilities to see notifications more easily. But you can use it to your advantage in other ways. If you often keep your computer muted and don't notice the popup in the corner, you can't really miss the flash. Plus, if you have more than one Mac, the flash lets you know where the alert fired.

While it's a minor effect, this could cause an issue for those with epilepsy. Thus, you should take care when using it in crowded areas. For more tricks like this, check out other useful features of your Mac you probably aren't using.

Do you like the screen flash or is the standard notification enough for you? If you found this feature handy, let us know in the comments!
