Apple Will Reportedly Launch 6.5-inch iPhone X Plus And Cheaper 'Notched' LCD Model In 2018

The current iPhone X, whose form-factor includes a 5.8-inch OLED display with a density of 458 pixels per inch (PPI), is expected to carry on next year. However, the device will be joined by an even higher-end model tentatively called the iPhone X Plus. This device will reportedly have a larger 6.5-inch OLED display (480 to 500 PPI). This would make it by far the largest display ever featured on an iPhone and even larger than the one found on the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 (6.3 inches).

For those that like the iPhone X design theme, but would like it in a cheaper device, Kuo also suggests that there will be a lower-end device with a 6.1-inch display. This model, however, will have a display based on traditional TFT-LCD technology instead of OLED to hit a lower price point. The smartphone will also reportedly have a lower PPI rating than the iPhone X and the iPhone X Plus.

All three smartphones will have feature the "notch" at the top of the display which houses the TrueDepth camera system for Face ID facial recognition. This is in keeping with previous reports that we've seen so far that stated all 2018 iPhones would ditch Touch ID (fingerprint-based authentication) in favor of Face ID. So, if the notch is not to your liking, it doesn't appear that Apple will be giving customers a reprieve next year.

Kuo claims that the 2018 iPhone with the 6.1-inch LCD display will be priced between $649 to $749. However, the larger 6.5-inch iPhone X Plus will likely push well past the $1,000 mark with a starting price of $1,099 or more given Apple's current pricing trends.
