Microsoft is killing off Office Mix, bringing capabilities to PowerPoint

Back in May 2014, Microsoft announced Office Mix Preview, a tool to transform regular PowerPoint slides into interactive lessons or presentations. Despite having received numerous updates and improvements over the past few years, the software never left its preview state.

Now, Microsoft has announced that it is finally killing off Office Mix Preview, advising customers to migrate their content to Stream.

Microsoft has stated that starting from today, if you are an existing Office Mix user, you can view, modify, delete, and download your existing content. Furthermore, if you're a qualified Office 365 customer, you can also migrate your Mixes to Microsoft Stream. If you're not, you can download them as PowerPoint files.

From January 1, 2018, new users won't be able to sign up or download the Office Mix Preview add-on. Finally, on May 1, 2018, the site and content created on it will be officially retired, and will no longer be accessible.

However, customers who use the add-on needn't worry too much, as Microsoft has announced that it is integrating Office Mix' capabilities directly into PowerPoint, Microsoft Stream, and Microsoft Forms for Office 365 for Windows PC users. The company has stated it will consider bringing the service to more platforms in the future.
