Yelp integrates Apple Pay support in iOS app update

Popular crowd-sourced business review service Yelp added Apple Pay payments to its iOS title in an update on Wednesday, promising iPhone and iPad users a faster checkout process for orders placed from the app.

With Yelp version 11.25.0, customers can use Apple Pay to pay for a variety of goods and services from businesses that integrate with Yelp's backend. Users can buy a meal from a nearby restaurant, for example, or reserve a massage at their favorite spa.

"You can now use Apple Pay to make purchases from local businesses on Yelp. So go ahead — book an oceanside couples massage, get tickets to that John Mayer concert, or get those lobster rolls delivered," Yelp says in its release notes.

Apple Pay shows up alongside the usual credit card, PayPal and cash options in Yelp's payment processing system. As seen above, users will find the new option available at checkout, where they can authenticate an order with their fingerprint — and soon face on iPhone X.

The addition is a welcome improvement to Yelp's property, which has long relied on credit card or PayPal payments for items purchased through the app. PayPal's process is perhaps closest to Apple Pay, though payments require authentication via a passcode or password.

Yelp is a free 184MB download from the App Store.
