According to the rumors, Apple is said to be unveiling a new 4K Apple TV alongside their new iPhones. This new Apple TV hardware is rumored to introduce support for 4K media content, as well as support for HDR, which seems to be the new direction that quite a bit of our media is headed towards these days.

Thanks to a recently leaked copy of the iOS 11 GM build, additional details about the upcoming Apple TV have been revealed. In a post on Twitter by developer Steve Troughton-Smith, it seems that one of the requirements for the Apple TV is that it will require users to have a minimum 15Mbps internet connection if they want to be able to stream 4K content.

We guess given the size of 4K media files, it makes sense that Apple will want users to own a fast internet connection in order to enjoy the experience fully. Also revealed in the iOS 11 GM is that the Apple TV will render natively at 2160p, which we guess confirms its 4K resolution, as well as support for a variety of color formats, which looks like it confirms HDR support too.

Apart from the rumors, there have also been signs that Apple is indeed getting ready for an Apple TV refresh, such as iTunes content being listed as HDR ready, but either way should have all the official details come 12th of September.
