AMD’s Threadripper chips are the company’s top-of-the-line desktop processors, offering the best performance and the most cores of any of the Ryzen line of processors. But while they’re not quite as expensive as Intel’s high-end multi-core offerings, the first batch of Threadripper chips weren’t exactly cheap, either. Fortunately for gamers looking for a slightly more affordable option, AMD is releasing a new budget Threadripper 1900X model, via TechRadar.

The 1900X is certainly less powerful on paper at a mere 8 cores / 16 threads compared to its more powerful siblings. (The $799 Ryzen Threadripper 1920X comes with 12 cores / 24 threads, and the $999 Ryzen Threadripper 1950X with 16 cores / 32 threads.) Still, AMD is pricing it at $549, which makes it a dramatically cheaper option.

The 1900X actually comes pretty close to AMD’s top Ryzen 7 model, the $499 Ryzen 7 1800X, but the Threadripper 1900X includes some extra features that allow it to take advantage of its multiple cores for better multitasking. So, consider what you’ll be using your rig for before shelling out for an upgrade.

AMD hasn’t given a release date yet, but the Ryzen Threadripper 1900X should be available soon.
