The Unicode Consortium has released version 10.0.0 of the Unicode Standard, which introduces 56 new emoji characters.

The 56 new emoji code points in Unicode 10.0 are:

The new child, adult, and older adult emojis all offer a range of skin tones. While there are 56 new emoji, the gender/skin tone modifiers and flags bring the actual total up to 239.

The new emoji will not automatically be available to iOS and Mac users. Apple will need to add support for Unicode 10, and they will have to create the artwork they’ll use. The process usually takes quite a few months to implement, so the new emoji could make an appearance in iOS 11 and macOS High Sierra this fall.
