AMD RX Vega Cards To Support PCI-E 4.0, Releasing Within Next Couple Of Months

May 23, 2017 05:50 AM EDT

There are only a few days remaining to see the much hyped AMD Vega graphics cards at Computex 2017. AMD Vega graphics card will be one of the first to feature support for PCI-E 4.0. Bad news for the Vega fans is that the gaming edition Radeon RX Vega will not be available right now; however, it will come over a couple of months from now.

It's very interesting since this rumored feature of AMD RX Vega is something which was also hinted at the GTC conference where Nvidia Volta was introduced. Nvidia also talked about NVLink 2.0 and different versions of PCI-E but there were no specifications at that point of time, according to Segment Next.

Now that this rumor is out, it is possible that Nvidia was talking about PCI-E 4.0. This is not confirmed yet so this is advisable to take with a grain of salt considering that no CPUs from Intel or from AMD Support this upcoming feature yet. However, a new CPU series might be seen which will support this feature.

Although the new feature is not coming to consumer level AMD RX Vega GPUs at the moment, it is still interesting to know that such technology exists. Even if it is not coming out for the consumer market right now, it can come out for the general public in the future.

According to Tech Report, in an interview with J.P. Morgan analyst Harlan Sur, AMD CEO Lisa Su revealed that would-be Vega customers will see "the enthusiast gaming platform, the machine learning platform, and the professional graphics platform very soon thereafter," referencing the second-half-of-June launch window for the Frontier Edition. CEO Su went on to say that AMD RX Vega cards across all of those product lines would be launching "over the next couple of months."

Given the vagueness of Su's statement, any AMD Vega product could release at any time over the next couple months. For more concrete information will presumably need to wait for Computex next week.
