  • I was very engaged by the topic yesterday. Particularly about whether Apple should continue to keep their car activities still a “secret”. This then continued to evolve to whether or not Apple should continue to invest in this endeavor, with thoughts by John about other heavy hitters in the autonomous car arena. I thought with 3 tech journalists there was something that was missed and I was waiting for it to surface. There are many reasons to embark on R&D, one is future product development, simply what can be learned that can be used in other areas, but a prime reason always in the background is applications for patents in a new area that is growing. If Apple does nothing other than creating a number of patents in this area, then I believe it is still a win especially if those patents are something that will used by other companies to realize a autonomous vehicle. I probably think of this because I am a Software Engineer for a high tech company and I know its always stressed to create patent applications so that we can continually expand the company’s patent portfolio. I love your podcast, its the highlight of my day, keep up the good work.
