SMARTPHONE SECRETS

From making your iPhone charge MUCH quicker to taking a hassle-free selfie, here’s what you never knew your Apple smartphone could do

Ten years ago the iPhone was revealed to the world - and we are still making discoveries about what its latest incarnation can do

WE all spend too much time on our iPhones - but we are still yet to learn about all its features.

After being launched ten years ago, the smartphone has revolutionised how we communicate and carry out day to day tasks - but it is capable of even more than we already know.

Here are some of the secret features you may not yet know about...

Using the volume button to take a photo

There's no need to awkardly bend your thumb while holding your iPhone with an outstretched arm.

For the simplest selfie ever, snap a photo by clicking the volume button.

Charge your phone quickly

Need more phone battery in a hurry? Thought so.

Putting your phone on airplane mode while it’s plugged in will charge your phone TWICE as quickly.

Planes above

One of the most pointless, but astonishing, features on the iPhone allows you to check if there are any planes in the airspace above you.

Just ask Siri “What planes are above me?” or say “Planes overhead” to get a list of what airliners are hovering thousands of feet above in the sky.

Restrict In-App purchases

Every parent dreads checking their child’s phone bill and seeing expensive pesky charges by apps.

To regain control of your spending, go into your general settings and click on restrictions.

Scroll down and uncheck the option that reads "in-app purchases" to stop apps from charging you for extras.

Get Siri to read aloud to you

We love playing around with Siri, but what you may not know is that it can read out loud to you.

To turn text into an audio book, go onto Settings, then General, then Accessibility and then Speech.

All you need to do is then turn on speak screen and speak selection.

Emergency medical information

If iPhone users set up a Medical ID profile in the Health app, you can store all your vital information there.

That means that in a time of crisis, anyone can access your emergency medical information without even unlocking the phone.

All they need to do is hit the medical button on the lock screen.
