Chromebooks are the answer for consumers that require portable computing machines that can store a decent amount of data, deliver a boatload of battery life and are priced at very affordable rates. In a nutshell, Chromebooks have catered to students and teachers by providing them with cost-effective notebooks but it looks like Microsoft might have the answer to that, according to the latest specifications of what the company has been working on.

The operating system according to the leaked specifications via Windows Central is Windows 10 Cloud and the name of the notebook that Microsoft is looking to bring to the masses is CloudBook. In case you were wondering about the leaked specifications, they have been listed below.

  • Quad-core (Celeron or better) processor.
  • 4GB of RAM.
  • 32GB of storage (64GB for 64-bit operating systems).
  • A battery larger than 40WHr.
  • Fast eMMC or solid state drive (for a slightly higher price tag) for storage technology.
  • Pen and touch (optional but costlier for the end-user).

Windows RT when announced was aimed towards bringing the desktop OS to ARM-powered notebooks but that plan backfired because of the lack of native support for desktop applications. According to additional details, Windows 10 Cloud will have a more refined store for Windows Universal Platform applications as well as feature the ability to run Win32 applications through ‘Project Centennial’.

However, we believe that the game changer for the introduction of these CloudBooks will be a lack of dependency for an active internet connection. Lack of internal memory on Chromebooks is made up by bringing cloud storage for users but the continuous dependency on an active wireless network makes life severely difficult for users, irrespective of the perk of getting much better battery life.
