HP used the MWC 2017 conference in Barcelona to unveil the company’s latest 2-in-1 device that competes against Microsoft’s very own Surface lineup.

Called HP Pro x2, the new model features high-end technical specifications, including 7th generation Intel Core processors, up to 8GB RAM, and 512GB storage.

First and foremost, you get a choice of 5 different processors, starting with an Intel Pentium 4410Y and ending with i7, with pricing obviously depending on your configuration. There’s no dedicated GPU, but all chipsets come with Intel Graphics 615, which should be enough for the typical everyday activities.

The HP Pro x2 boasts a 12-inch full HD display with Gorilla Glass 4 protection against scratches and hits and, obviously, with touchscreen support that allows the device to be used as a tablet when the keyboard is not attached.

The tablet itself was designed to be super-durable anyway, as it features an MIl-STD810G rating, which means that it has already been tested against drops, dust, and shocks and it should be able to resist them without too much effort. A separate rugged case is also available for $49 should you want to be sure that no damage occurs whatsoever.

Extra features

Buyers also get NFC, microSD card reader, USB 3.0, SIM support, and headphone port, as well as a number of sensors, such as accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity, and ambient light sensor.

The keyboard itself features a touchpad, 2-way scroll, gestures, two-finger scrolling and zoom, as well as backlighting that’s available as an optional feature.

The tablet is quite light and weighs just 0.85 kg, while the keyboard adds 350 grams, but HP says that the final weight can vary by configuration.

There’s also a kickstand whose purpose is similar to the one on the Microsoft Surface, as well as some other extra accessories, such as a USB Type C dock and a travel dock.

The XP Pro x2 is already available for purchase from HP’s website, and it costs $979 for the entry-level configuration, going all the way up to $1735 for the top-of-the-range model.
