Using my iPhone and iPad to plan my travelling.

My iPhone is essential when it comes to travelling. It begins a couple of weeks prior to my travelling, I will check in with my hotel over email to make sure that I am booked in. I will also check out TripAdvisor to read the latest testimonials, if I don’t have a good feeling about the hotel at least I have time to change it. Tripadvisor on my iPhone is one of my most used apps. I like to read up on hotels before I get to my chosen destination, more importantly before I even book my travel arrangements. I also use the Booking.com app which I find is essential when booking my hotel, I can easily make amendments to travel dates or change the type of room easily through and I normally find if I need any extra service or request amendments from the guys at booking.com then they respond quick in responding using the app.

I also look to book my flight tickets using the United app or Lufthansa or indeed whatever airline I am flying. I tend to book flights using my iPad to take advantage of screen real estate. In fairness I use my iPad more as a day today computer than my MacBook Pro or my MacBook Air.

As we get nearer to the date of travelling I will check in online 24 hours before my flight, I like to use my iPhone to store my boarding passes in the electronic wallet on my iPhone. A quick check of the weather forecast will also keep me up-to-date and help me with my packing. Again I will also check-in on my hotel confirmation which is normally stored in the Booking.com passbook on my iPhone. My airline boarding pass can be shown directly from my iPhone to the check-in agent at the airport to allow seamless boarding.

On the aircraft, take for example United Airlines I will normally download their app so that I can use their onboard Wi-Fi which is offered on many of their flights. I find that the Wi-Fi especially United flights is actually very fast. Their Wi-Fi allows me to surf most websites, you are not supposed to stream services such as YouTube but I find that browsing websites is remarkably quick and there is something really cool with surfing the net at 35,000 feet. It also gives me valuable time to check in on Flipboard, allowing me to see what my friends are up to, especially those who use social networking media such as Facebook and Twitter.

So I hope this editorial gives you a brief insight on how I use my mobile devices, in this case, my iPhone and iPad to assist my travelling.
