Samsung has confirmed that despite the battery life issues and subsequent recall that plagued the Galaxy Note 7, the company will continue to use the “Galaxy Note” branding for its future phablet devices.

Ahead of Samsung’s presentation on its Note 7 battery investigation, Samsung’s mobile chief D.J. Koh told CNET, "I will bring back a better, safer and very innovative Note 8." Koh cites the fact that there are lots of loyal Note fans out there as the primary reason for sticking with the brand, despite the somewhat tarnished reputation the Note 7 has brought to the name.

To its credit, Samsung took full responsibility for the Note 7 issues in a press conference on Sunday, and noted that almost all of the devices have been successfully recalled. And while carriers like Verizon have noted that there are still “thousands” of recalled devices still out in the wild, efforts continue to disable the devices through software updates to get Note 7 owners to stop using the phones.

The company also detailed an eight-point plan that it will be employing going forward to ensure that future devices — including the upcoming Galaxy S8 and Note 8 — won’t catch fire. Samsung also announced that the Galaxy S8 won’t be unveiled at Mobile World Congress this year, unlike previous Galaxy S models, presumably to make sure that Samsung has time to make sure it gets the battery right this time.
