Build 15014 allegedly bringing new options… for some

Windows 10 build 15014, which was released to Fast ring insiders earlier today, comes with some new options for Windows Update that give users more control over the updates they install on their computers.

Posted on reddit by user /u/jcotton42, these options do not seem to be available on a number of computers, and there’s a good chance that Microsoft is still experimenting for the time being and this is why only a few users see them. We can’t confirm the legitimacy of this screenshot for the time being, so take it with a pinch of salt until more information emerges.

Advanced Windows Update options

As you can see for yourselves in this screenshot, Windows 10 users are provided with multiple Windows Update options, some of which were already available in the previous builds of Creators Update for insiders.

Users can receive updates for other Microsoft products when they update Windows, including driver updates, and use their sign-in info to automatically finish setting up devices after an update.

But with this build, there’s also a new section called “Choose when Feature and Quality Updates are installed,” and there are three different options that come included. First and foremost, there’s an option to choose the branch readiness level to determine when feature updates are installed, with two settings available, Current Branch and Current Branch for Business.

A second dropdown menu lets users choose the number of days to defer the install of feature updates, with up to 365 days available for selection. And last but not least, there’s an option to defer the quality updates for as much as 30 days.

On our computers enrolled in the Windows Insider program, these options are missing from Windows Update, though we still see the headline that reads “Choose when Feature and Quality Updates are installed.” Both ours and the reddit user’s computers are running Windows 10 Pro.

Most likely, Microsoft is still experimenting with these options and this is why they’re not yet available for everyone, but should feedback be positive, everyone should be getting them in the coming updates.
