The first memory of the iPhone for me peronally was when I was in New York City for the launch, I remember being in line outside the New York City SoHo Apple Store. There was a line of people, all frantic, enthusiastic and excited. There was a countdown and the people that had been waiting in line for days were let in, met with cheers and applause. The first people came out, their iPhone commerative bags lifted high up above their heads, out came the first of what would be millions of iPhone users, these people were amongst the very first.

Not long later I was the proud owner of an iPhone, I loved it. I remember sitting in my local coffee shop in a Waterstone bookstore in London, I was sat in a comfy chair using it, connected to the local Wifi connection, browsing the internet. I could see the envy of a 20 something year old, eager to ask me about the phone, his excitement was evident. I was cautious to his polite advances, his enthusiam to touch what was the most lust over gadget. His eyes lit up when I allowed him to manhandle the iPhone and he explored the features, he loved the fact he could “touch” the internet, marvel at the map app and be amazed at push email, he was very much convinced that his next phone would be the iPhone.

10 years on the enthusiasm may not be as evident but the iPhone has set the benchmark, much of what was revolutionary back in 2007 is today taken for granted, I too am guilty of this. However one thing is for sure, the iPhone has revolutionized my day. From the sound of the alarm in the morning to checking the weather app to see what the day has in store; checking the currency rates; booking flights or checking in and seeing which gate your flight will leave from. Making note of my gym routine, detailing my fitness regime and noting how many miles I have walked that day. Communicating with friends and family around the world through the means of Facetime, which has saved me considerable time and money. I can instant message my friends through the means of WhatsApp which has replaced my need to text message. The list goes on, the iPhone has not only been revolutionary but for once I have stuck to using the same mobile device, why? Simply because it is the only device that does everything that I need it to do, it has assisted me in every way possible and I, for once I am thankful to Steve Jobs and Apple for introducing me to what I consider is the great gadget ever….the iPhone.
