Tim Cook & other tech leaders meet Trump today, reports say ‘no set agenda’ but one topic [Update]

[UPDATE: Cook, Musk, and Trump will have a separate meeting scheduled following the tech summit, according to the president-elect’s transition team spokesperson.]

Apple CEO Tim Cook is one of a number of senior figures from the tech industry meeting today with president-elect Donald Trump. The list of attendees in the NY Times is virtually a Who’s Who of Silicon Valley.

Tesla’s Elon MuskLarry Page and Eric Schmidt representing Google parent company Alphabet, Microsoft’s Satya Nadella, Jeff Bezos from Amazon, Facebook’s Sheryl Sandberg, Safra Catz from Oracle, Intel’s Brian Krzanich, Chuck Robbins from Cisco and IBM’s Ginni Rometty are all listed as attending. Interestingly, given Trump’s fondness for Tweeting, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey told Re/code that he has not been invited.

Re/code reports that there is no set agenda for the meeting, but the topic will be the impact of technology on the economy – with a particular focus on jobs.

Discussions between Trump and Cook should be interesting given that Trump has called for a boycott of Apple products after the company refused to build a GovtOS for the FBI and would ‘force’ Apple to build its products in the United States. Apple also took a stand against Trump by withholding its usual financial and tech aid from the GOP convention.

It’s unlikely we’ll hear more than positive-sounding platitudes after the meeting, but we’ll see …

Notably, Tim Cook did not appear publicly before the meeting unlike all others in attendance.
