Brain-teasing iPhone puzzler is Tetris with rings

As much as I like the kind of long, winding, RPG-style games you can get lost in for months at a time, I’ll always be a sucker for a great mobile puzzle game.

That’s exactly what developer Midnight Tea Studio offers with its new game Dropa! Pitched somewhere between Tetris and that fingerprint pattern you have to fill in when you set up a new Touch ID profile, it’s a game that’s sure to keep you busy during the holiday season.

Check out the trailer below.

The game itself adopts a minimalist visual style, in which you have to complete circular rings by plugging in Tetris-esque blocks. To rotate a piece, simply tap on its center and then find the best place on the circle to slot it in. Completed rings will disappear, and the goal is to complete as many as possible to move on to the next level.

As with Tetris, you can gain a strategic advantage by looking to see which brick comes next, which allows you to plan out your placements a little better.

While Dropa! probably isn’t going to be a wholly fresh gaming experience (unless you’re one of those terrifyingly young millennials who don’t remember the heady thrill of spending hours playing Tetris on the Game Boy), it is a neat remix of a proven entity — complete with a great original score.

You can pick it up for free from the App Store, for any iOS device running iOS 7 or above. Note: the game includes non-compulsory in-app purchases.
