WIRED

Photography is a visual language. The best photos create a narrative, generate awe, and convey emotion. So when we decided to redesign WIRED Photo, we wanted to make the images sing.

Our beautiful new site is a striking departure from the rest of WIRED.com, which emphasizes text and images equally. WIRED Photo is all about photography. Images span the screen in ribbons, which expand with a subtle parallax effect as you scroll through the page. You browse content seamlessly, like you do on Instagram and other platforms. A large gallery opens with one click, revealing a breathtaking viewing experience. Our high-resolution light box provides unrivaled detail, while the post below it tells more of the story.

"Photography is an integral part of how WIRED tells stories and a key component of what we do. We felt it deserved its own unique canvas,” said Editor in Chief Scott Dadich. “Now, no matter what screen you’re using, WIRED offers one of the best photo viewing experiences on the web."

WIRED’s engineering team spent months bringing WIRED Photo to life. The high-resolution images load quickly, and the parallax animation intuitively follows the viewer’s movements on the page. The team crafted a site that works in tandem with WIRED.com, but functions like a native platform that works beautifully on any device, whether a retina screen or a mobile phone.

We're proud of our new platform, which allows us to continue doing what we do best---use the best images to tell the best stories. So scroll, explore, and discover.
