Microsoft is looking to get Apple users to switch to its Windows devices

Microsoft has laid out its plan to take on .

The Windows 10 maker has launched a new exchange program which is offering major discounts on its Surface products to any potential new customers willing to trade in their current Apple devices.

It has launched a new "trade-in and trade up" program, aimed at getting MacBook users to switch to a Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book products as Microsoft goes for top spot in the laptop market.

The offer is currently only open to customers in the United States, but can provide some major discounts.

Microsoft wrote in a blog post,  “If you have a Mac but want to experience the ultimate laptop with on-screen touch, Surface and Microsoft Store are here for you."

Anyone looking to trade in a MacBook Pro or MacBook Air at a Microsoft Store or online can receive up to $650 (around £535) off a Surface Book or Surface Pro.

That's a significant discount off either product, as the Surface Pro 4 currently starts at $899 and the Surface Book from $1,499.

The offer will be available until November 10th, giving MacBook users ample time to weigh up the choice of trading in.

Microsoft Surface Studio – First Advert

The news comes after both Microsoft and Apple revealed new hardware products this week.

The former revealed , including the sleek all-in-one Surface Studio touchscreen desktop computer, and an incredibly-powerful Surface Book i7 laptop.

The Surface Studio is perhaps Microsoft's most ambitious release to date, sporting a 28-inch touchscreen – the thinnest display ever shipped, according to Microsoft – that can be folded down to a 20-degree viewing angle, like the slanted desks found in art studios.

The Surface Book i7 doubles the performance of the first generation device, with Microsoft claiming that the new device is "three times more graphics power" than Apple's 13-inch MacBook Pro.

However Apple hit back with the release of its redesigned MacBook Pro devices at an event in California last night.

The company , which were described  as "the new gold standard for notebook computers"

Available in Silver and Space Grey colour schemes and shipping within the next few weeks, the new MacBook Pro devices drew praise for their svelte build and powerful hardware, including the revolutionary Touch Bar.

However Apple raised eyebrows in revealing the price of the new devices, as the 13-inch version of the Pro with the Touch Bar and Touch ID fingerprint scanner starts at £1,749, and the 15-inch starts at £2,349.
