Microsoft admits it WILL be raising prices in the UK

COMPUTING giant confirms price hikes across Britain following Brexit decision, with some services going up as much as 22 per cent.

Microsoft will be raising some prices significantly from 2017

Microsoft has confirmed that it will be raising its prices in the UK following the Brexit vote.

The company wrote in a blog post that the cost of many of its products will rise from January 1st following the UK's decision to leave the European Union.

It said that the rise will "harmonise prices" across Europe, keeping the costs closer to Euro levels seen on the continent.

Among the highest rise are Microsoft's cloud services, which will go up 22 per cent, and business software, which will rise around 13 per cent.

Microsoft claimed that, "Even after this adjustment, customers across the region buying in British pound will still find our cloud offerings highly competitive."

"We periodically assess the impact of local pricing of our products and services to ensure there is reasonable alignment across the region and this change is an outcome of this assessment."

The company added that it had carried out a similar move in both Norway and Switzerland earlier this year.

Microsoft also said that customers with existing orders or licensing agreements will be protected from the rises - at least until they need to renew their subscription.

The company also noted that it does not set the pricing structures used by third party resellers, who may choose to raise their prices even higher.

The computing giant is is the latest company to say it will raise prices following the Brexit decision.

Earlier this year, said that it would introducing a 10 per cent price rise across its computer range.

Asus, another of the world’s leading laptop makers, confirmed by around nine percent from October.

This will mean that anyone looking to buy a new Asus PC around Christmas could find themselves paying far more than previous months.

Dell has also said that , with a rise of around 10 percent set to take place over the next few weeks. 

Phone maker OnePlus has also revealed it will be raising the prices of some of its devices following the EU referendum.

The company , saying that the Brexit decision and its immediate effect on the value of the pound versus the dollar was the reason behind the price hike.
