OS X
News
  • "What Will Star in Apple's Big Show? Apple has officially set its schedule for June's 2012 WWDC. New developments in its iOS and OS X are expected, particularly in regard to Mountain Lion, the next version of its desktop OS. Changes in iTunes and the App Store could also take place. As for hardware, new MacBook Pros may make the scene, but expectations for a new iPhone are lower." MacNewsWorld 10:43 AM

  • "I have 8 GB RAM on my Mac Mini, and I typically have Safari and Mail open all day long. I'm using Safari 5.1.7, and I try not to have too many tables open, but I am still experiencing memory issues and spinning beach-ball daily. So I use the 'Free Memory' Menu utility to clear memory, which seems to help. But after a few hours of use, I see the memory run down again; sometimes as low as a few hundred MB, which really starts slowing down my system. My hope is they fix this memory problem once for all with the next OS release." MacInTouch 12:17 PM
  • "'Surely *accepting* cookies isn't so much a problem as sending them back out again. Did you notice the point in time at which that setting in Safari's preferences changed from 'Accept Cookies' to 'Block Cookies?' I submit that that change of phrasing was not whimsical. 'Accept' implies inbound. 'Block' does not imply a direction, and I can think of some subtle benefits to having that setting control the outbound side of the process.' Cookies are bidirectional. Why set one if it will never be sent back to the web server? Might as well just block it at the outset. Anyway, the problem is not that they changed the phrasing, which in my opinion was entirely whimsical since it serves no purpose other than to confuse users, but the fact that Safari doesn't block cookies when it's set to block them, regardless of what label the button has. It's a bug. It's been broken for nearly a year, from *before* they changed the label on the button. I've given up on it ever being fixed. It's very unfortunate, since otherwise, Safari is pretty good. The reality is that users who want control which cookies are accepted and which are blocked need to use a different browser." MacInTouch 12:16 PM
