"I use a late 2008 MacBook Pro. MacBookPro5,1 to be exact. The Magsafe adapter went intermittent and would not charge the battery consistently. The battery itself had a very low amp-hour capacity. Apple replaced them both under AppleCare, 2 years in. Since then, I go days at a time with the battery removed. I only install it when I really need to use it without being tethered to AC mains. Most of the time it is outside the laptop and remains at 50% charge to conserve functionality. I expect I'll keep using this laptop this way for quite some time." MacInTouch 4:28 PM
