  • "It seems to me that Steve Levin's Snow Leopard installations had developed problems that fixing/re-installing Snow Leopard would have solved. Millions of users have no issues with Firefox or Preview. I don't use Excel enough to say that it's better/worse in Lion. I have noticed that everything I use on a daily basis runs slower in Lion. The computer is less responsive and I see significantly more beach balls in Lion than I ever saw in Snow Leopard. 4GB of RAM is enough for 10.6 if you stay away from Safari, but Lion eats it like, well, a hungry lion." MacInTouch 4:29 PM

I bought it because I understood it was very likely to be the last MBP to do so - like many others I had (and still have) no wish to 'upgrade' to Lion. I cannot say from experience whether the next model (launched in October 2011) still boots into Snow Leopard, but Mactracker says it boots only into 10.7.2 or later, so it seems I acted in time. Clearly, the safe option is to go for the Feb 2011 model. I hope this helps." MacInTouch 4:28 PM
